A beautiful, traditional necklace of glass seed beads, shell hair-pipes and a stunning quahog shell pendant, designed and hand crafted by Sou'West Nova Metis artist Don Standing Bear Forest. The eight segment symmetrical design consists of 104 violet-purple opaque matte seed beads, 10 matte white seed beads and 4 white shell hair-pipes. The focal point is a stunning, one of a kind purple quahog shell pendant. Purple quahog shell is still highly prized and the most desirable for fashioning traditional wampum. The pendant is removable, with care, to use as a chic piece of jewellery on its own or with another favourite necklace. The necklace has a lobster clasp. The colour coordination of beads and hair-pipe in this piece is just perfect and picks out the natural quahog palette in a very pleasing way, that doesn't overwhelm the beauty and serenity of the pendant. Although reportedly used as currency for centuries, wampum still holds a much broader and deeper significance in the social and spiritual values of American Indian culture. Don's work showcases and upholds those values in every respect.
