An eye-catching and elegant necklace of British Columbia Jade (nephrite) and Buffalo bone hair-pipes, conceived and hand crafted in traditional style by Sou'West Nova Metis artist Don Standing Bear Forest. The five segment symmetrical design consists of 35 medium and 26 small green beads and 4 beige hair-pipes. The gorgeous British Columbia Jade beads range in colour from light green through to near black. Many stones are attractively marked with the characteristic black fibrous mottling. Some, particularly the smaller ones, are translucent. The Buffalo bone hairpipes, which are of a nice crisp colour with some natural shade variations, are expertly worked and polished to smooth, silky perfection. The necklace has a lobster clasp. Jade has been valued and revered around the globe for many thousands of years, for its beauty and for its toughness. Today, jewellers fashion this iconic gemstone into all kinds of new and contemporary designs. With this necklace design Don showcases its beauty in a more traditional guise which, combined with the symbolic power and energy of the Buffalo bone, results in a particularly harmonious and singular piece of American Indian jewellery.
