A fabulous 3 strand olive shell bird fetish and heishi necklace accented with gorgeous Kingman Arizona turquoise nuggets, beautifully hand made using ancient traditional Kewa techniques, by accomplished Pueblo jewellers James and Doris Coriz. This distinctive piece of American Indian jewellery consists of 57 size graduated bird fetishes, carved from olive shell and 18 naturally shaped Kingman turquoise nuggets, strung on 3 dark olive shell heishi necklaces. The bird carvings retain the stunning natural beauty of the olive shell palette and markings, with pale orange heads and beaks and grey-brown mottled bodies and tails. The turquoise nuggets are bright blue-green and are rough, irregular natural shapes with lots of nodules, typical Kingman matrix and even visible chunks of 'fools gold'. The hand cut heishi is predominantly dark chocolate brown, but with lovely splashes of beige, grey and white. The whole necklace is polished to perfection, to give a bright and cheerful lustre to the piece. This traditional and distinctive necklace is very smooth and comfortable and sits perfectly. The hook and eye clasp assembly consists of sterling silver round beads and cones, marked with American Indian rain symbols. The irresistible appeal of this necklace is in James and Doris's eye for attractive colour combinations and in how they fuse together traditional, natural elements to create a singular work of wearable art.
