A glittering necklace of Czech Aurora Borealis fire-polished faceted glass beads, Buffalo horn hair-pipes and Australian Boulder Opal, designed and wonderfully hand crafted by Sou'West Nova Metis artist Don Standing Bear Forest. The necklace design consists of 106 uniform size round glass beads and 10 Buffalo horn hair-pipes, which split the symmetrical design into 12 segments. The focal piece is a gorgeous Boulder Opal pendant. The shimmering glass beads are coloured a wonderfully intense dark-cobalt blue and go through a myriad of colour changes in the light. The inky black of the petite Buffalo horn hair-pipes, provides a delightful contrast. The polished Australian Boulder Opal is triangular in shape and has convex and concave faces. The convex face has a background of dark and light chocolate tones, with a beautiful distinctive turquoise ring on the top side. The concave face is a riot of chocolate brown, turquoise, cobalt and light blues with a splodge of white. The necklace could be worn with the stone facing either way. The ends of the necklace are finished with small spherical silver beads and a lobster clasp. The faceted Czech glass has a vibrant, sparkling contemporary style to it, complimented and enhanced by the natural conservative look of the Buffalo horn. What really makes this piece stand out though, is the inspired inclusion of the adorable earthy Opal, a reminder of the traditional origins of jewellery as an adornment.
